The Berghoff Restaurant & Bar

"The restaurant's founder, Herman Joseph Berghoff, an immigrant to America in 1870 from Dortmund, Germany, began brewing Berghoff Beer in Fort Wayne, Indiana, in 1887... Herman dreamed of expanding the market for his beer beyond Indiana. The Chicago World's Fair of 1893 proved to be a perfect introduction when he sold the beer to fair-goers on the now-famous Midway. read more...

The Monument Cafe

Built in 1995, but with a 1920's to 1930's look and feel to it. We haven't been here yet, but it looks like it would be the perfect place for black and white photo ops. Great curves and glass bricks... ohhhh how I love glass bricks. Another thing that's old fashioned about this place is that the food is FARM FRESH - all natural meats and mostly organic vegetables. Yes, there was a time many years ago when that is the ONLY way that food was served, so thanks to The Monument Cafe for bringing that aspect of the past back! read more...

Hardware Cafe

I love theme restaurants, and I especially love theme restaurants set in actual, original old settings. The Hardware Cafe in Warrenton, North Carolina is literally in an old hardware store. Main Street in Warrenton is one of those classic, Southern small town downtown Main Streets. You can comfortably walk from store to store and cross the street without getting hot on a hot summer day because all the stores are close together. While shopping for antiques on Main Street, this is the perfect place for a lunch break. read more...
