Who invented planking? And when was planking invented? Tom Green. 1990.

I found this video on YouTube of Tom Green and friends in 1990. About 30 seconds into the video, you'll see Tom Green and his friends drop to the ground (in a store, of course... this is Tom Green, after all) and they do what is known today as "planking".

If you don't know what "planking" is, check this out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tRHnTFesv7c

Props to Network Ten for reporting on planking with a sense of humor!

So, now we know who invented planking and when it was invented. Tom Green invented planking 20 years ago.

There's something else we should know. When was Tom Green invented?

Tom Green was invented 40 years ago on this day, July 30, in 1971. That's right, today is Tom Green's 40th birthday. Happy Birthday, Tom Green!!

If you don't believe me that Tom Green invented planking, I found another 90's video as proof. Here's Tom Green planking again on the street in 1994: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=csS_oySjfjU

But, wait!!!There's more!!! I was thinking about the first video clip I remember seeing of Tom Green back in the 1990's on The Tom Green Show on MTV (as an American, I missed out on the early years of his cable access show in Ottawa). The first clip I remember seeing was when he was shopping for a house from a couple who were really good sports about the fact that he pretended their trash can was R2D2 and goofed around in other ways in their home, including throwing chairs off of the balcony. Back then, there was no YouTube, so I had to wish and hope for MTV to air that episode again until I had a chance to videotape it. I found it on YouTube today, and lo and behold, there's yet another scene of Tom Green planking. This time, on the bed. :-) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yqji77FFZVI

Unfortunately, the end of the clip is missing. I recall that the homeowners ended up throwing chairs off of the roof too at the end. Good sports! Many people got angry or annoyed at Tom Green for his pranks, but we'd also see some people who were willing to play along, as you'll see at the marshmallow factory: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RA2UlQ1AL5Y

Cheers to 40 years of Tom Green!
