Sharing Memories of Christmas in the 1920's in Oklahoma

I LOVE hearing people's memories of Christmas past. Even as a little girl, I felt so excited for Laura Ingalls as I read about how delighted she was to get a shiny tin cup for Christmas. A shiny tin cup, a peppermint stick, a penny, and a cake that ma made were all that Laura needed to feel like the joy and excitement of Christmas in the 1800's.

Visualize the peace and beauty of the moment Laura discovered those gifts.  read more...

Handmade Vintage Christmas Stockings and Ornaments

Do you have an ornament, stocking, or Christmas decoration that somebody made for you years ago that reminds you of that person every time you hang it up or display it? Those pieces bring special feelings to our hearts because a lot of love was put into those Christmas pieces.

I still adore the wooden Christmas ornaments my aunt painted, and I love to see the Christmas bell my mom made out of a plastic cup when she was a little girl.  read more...

1940's Christmas Movies - Christmas in Connecticut

Doesn't this time of year make you want to put on a beautiful coat, scarf and hat and walk the sugary, snowy sidewalks of a charming downtown, where the store windows are twinkling with Christmas lights? There's something about Christmas that brings out the classic girl in me.

To enhance that classic Christmas feeling, here's a list of some 1940's Christmas movies that we can watch by the fire (or fake fireplace, if you don't have a real one). :-) read more...

Christmas in the 80's - The My Buddy Doll was THE doll of 1985

25 years ago many little toddlers and children met their first ever BFF - their My Buddy doll.

I came across this touching video while looking up "Christmas in 1985" on YouTube. I wanted to be reminded of what people were interested in 25 years ago. Someone must have turned on the lawn sprinklers because my eyes got a little misty watching this one.  read more...

The Oldest Christmas Card In The World

The Christmas card in this video was created long before the days that you could easily purchase boxes of Christmas cards anywhere - in big box stores, drug stores, grocery stores, department stores, etc. These days, there are so many to choose from that's a big decision.  You can choose from spiritual, cutesy, glittery, fluffy, folksy, Santa themed, snowman themed, winter scenes, hobby themed, dog themed, cat themed, licensed characters, etc.

While life was physically tougher 160 years ago, choosing a Christmas card was clearly easier. :-) read more...

1950's Outdoor Christmas Decorations - Santa, Sleigh, Elves, Reindeer...

Does anyone else's heart go pitter-pat at the site of vintage Christmas decorations? This 1950's silent home movie was breathtaking to someone like me who LOVES vintage Christmas. In all my time looking at 1950's ornaments at auctions, estate sales, and antique stores, I have never come across any 1950's Christmas decorations like any of these. Outdoor Christmas decorations that weren't made of plastic just didn't survive.  So, outdoor decorations like the ones in this home movie are a site you just don't see ANYWHERE these days. read more...

1960's Christmas in Australia - With Hoover!

This 1962 Australian Christmas commercial advertises Hoover. The commercial suggests items that women REALLY want for Christmas.

Not many women have an iron at the top of their Christmas wish list these days. Of course, these days you can even sometimes find an iron priced lower than the price of a fast food meal. Also, women just don't spend hours ironing like they used to.  read more...
